The Global Campus
Enrollment of international students in bachelor’s and master’s engineering programs grew at a faster rate than overall enrollment from 2007 to 2012, while roughly keeping pace with overall enrollment in doctoral programs. The number of students enrolled in engineering programs in the United States at all degree levels grew during those years. Full-time students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs increased from 385,690 to 504,690, in master’s programs from 89,573 to 105,371, and in doctoral programs from 58,318 to 72,245. The number of foreign nationals also increased, along with their proportion of overall enrollment. As shown in the graphic, male foreign national students saw the largest gains at the bachelor’s degree program level, while male foreign national students increased in number but decreased slightly as a percentage of those enrolled in doctoral programs. The number of female international students enrolled in engineering programs increased at all degree levels.
